GIFTS FROM FRIENDS WE NEVER WANTED: BIBLICAL JOURNEYS OF GRACE
Discover how unlikely friends can provide us with gifts beyond measure. Unwelcome guests are not generally greeted with gratitude but occasionally they become unexpected friends bearing gifts we never would have asked for. In Gifts from Friends We Never Wanted, Virginia Herbers introduces a sampling of these types of surprising guests in our lives--failure, disappointment, worry--and the gifts they offer us when they come visiting.
Following the same pattern as her first book, Gifts from Friends We've Yet to Meet, Herbers chooses a gospel character to accompany us as we engage these uninvited "friends." Weaving together the stories of Jesus's contemporaries, his response to their foibles, and stories from her own experiences, Herbers invites us to join her on a journey of discovery, vulnerability, honesty--and hospitality. She asks if we dare to befriend the least appealing truths of ourselves to surrender them to a God who can enlighten even the greatest darkness? If we dare, then we will have truly understood the value of these gifts from friends we never wanted.

GIFTS FROM FRIENDS WE'VE YET TO MEET: A MEMOIR OF BIBLICAL ENCOUNTERS
What does it mean to be anonymous in the gospels? Isn't God the one who calls us by name and knows us even before we are born? In Gifts from Friends We've Yet to Meet, Virginia Herbers introduces readers to nameless gospel characters, each of whom provides us with a story, a journey, and a gift.
Reflecting on experiences in her own life, Herbers journeys through these gospel stories, inviting us to reflect on seemingly insignificant encounters in our own lives. Who are the "anonymous figures" who have played a critical role for each of us? How do the experiences of the nameless gospel characters continue to reach and teach us today? Can it be that their anonymity allows their experience to be both individual and universal? In each of these anonymous characters, Herbers introduces us to dear friends we just haven't met yet. And each of their ages-old encounters with Jesus contains a gift for all of us today.

GOD FOR US - READER'S EDITION: REDISCOVERING THE MEANING OF LENT
Examine the meaning of Lent and its significance in spiritual formation and the preparation for Easter, and walk through the holy season of Easter. Leading North American spiritual writers reflect on what one theologian has called the "bright sadness" of Lent: that it is not about feeling of broken and lost, but about cleansing the palate so we can taste life to a greater extent. In the Lent and Easter seasons, we encounter the God who, in all of life, is for us--for our liberation, for our healing, for our wholeness. Even in death we can find resurrection.

GOD'S GRACE FOR GRADUATES
And here's what it sounds like.
It sounds like hope for days when life feels absolutely overwhelming. It sounds like promise that speaks into every relationship, no matter how desperately in need or how dear to your heart. It sounds like sufficiency in all those places where none of us is ever good enough. It sounds like confidence that would make no sense at all except the full weight of God is steadfastly behind it.
If God's grace could talk, it would sound exactly like what this book says in every Scripture on every page. And it wouldn't sound nearly as old as it actually is, because it's new every morning and within instant reach at every moment.
It would sound like God, talking directly to you. Because He is. And does.
And always does it with grace.

GOD'S KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORLD
"God's Knowledge of the World examines theories of divine ideas from approximately 1250-1325 AD (St. Bonaventure through Ockham). It is the only work dedicated to categorizing and comparing the major theories of divine ideas in the Scholastic period. A theory of divine ideas was the standard Scholastic response to the question how does God know and produce the world? A theory was deemed to be successful only if it simultaneously upheld that God has perfect knowledge and that he is supremely simple and one. These questions cause the Scholastic authors to articulate clearly, among other things, their positions on the nature of knowledge, relation, exemplar causality, participation, infinity, and possibility. An author's theory of divine ideas, then, is the locus for him to test the coherence of his metaphysical, epistemological, and logical principles"--

In these life-changing pages, His Eminence will help you grow in union with God personally and find comfort in His love as you learn to discern and place your hope in the Holy Trinity.

As you begin to perceive and soak up God's incarnate love and desire for intimacy with you, you will discover:
In addition, you will learn the biblical basis for why sacramental grace is offered in person and for the teaching of the Real Presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. You will also see the ways in which the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass connects to the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross, and why it is the most efficacious act we can perform on earth.
His Eminence also discourses on the role of grace and modern-day concerns, such as human dignity; freedom; the roles of bishops, priests, and laity; and how to approach ecumenical efforts. GOOD PARENTS TOUGH TIMES
In Good Parents, Tough Times, authors Charlene C. Giannetti and Margaret Sagarese focus on the spiritual well-being of the parent as much as the behavior of the child. The authors draw parallels between the real-life struggles parents face today and those endured by the saints. They believe that the qualities that enabled the saints to face great troubles—charity, knowledge, faith, hope, patience, serenity, truth, and humility—can help parents cope with a troubled child.
“This book provides what every parent needs: a chance to learn from the saints and to look to them for encouragement and practical advice.”
—Scott Hahn, author of The Lamb’s Supper
—Fr. Paul Keenan, author of Heartstorming
—Bert Ghezzi, author of Voices of the Saints and Mystics and Miracles

HEALED BY LOVE
Find healing through the path of contemplative prayer, which is God's self-communication in love and awakens within us our own need for transformation.
God has planted in our hearts an insatiable longing to love and be loved, that is, to love God, others, and creation with the very love of God. We know, however, from our human experience, that we fail to love as we desire with all our hearts. In Healed by Love, Carmelite Friar Daniel Chowning urges those in need of healing to seek refuge in the spiritual doctrine of St. John of the Cross.
The more we grow in love, the healthier we become. The doctrine of St. John of the Cross is one of healing and transformation of the human person. For him, the path of contemplation, which is God's self-communicating love, is a journey of purification, healing, and transformation at the deepest root of our being where we can love God, others, and creation according to God's original plan for us and grow toward the fullness of who God created us to be. In Healed by Love, those suffering in body and spirit may find comfort through the teaching of St. John of the Cross and the path of contemplative prayer.

HEALING WOUNDS
Are we healed through our wounds or are our wounds themselves healed from some other source?
In this 2025 Lent Book, Erik Varden starts by examining the New Testament where it spells out why Christ's wounds were efficacious for the healing of humankind. He contends that while this theological perspective is fundamental, it often falls short of addressing the emotional and spiritual needs of believers. Bob Dylan once said, tongue in cheek, 'Pain sure does bring out the best in people.' The philosopher Donald MacKinnon said, 'Suffering never ennobled anyone.' Suffering by nature poses questions people wrestle with today in many fields of life with counsellors, therapists, philosophers, and spiritual directors. But the conundrum remains and in this book Varden sets out to resolve it. Structured to guide readers through a journey of reflection, beginning with the raw reality of suffering and moving toward the possibility of redemption and renewal. Varden employs a contemplative tone, inviting readers to sit with their own experiences of pain and consider how these might be transformed through faith and introspection. His insights are particularly relevant during the Lenten season, a time of reflection on Christ's passion and its implications for believers.- Please log in to review this product
